The Brin Wojcicki Foundation Program in Computer Science and Engineering

The populations Eastside serves are dramatically underrepresented in the fields of science and engineering. To address this disparity and help meet the country’s need for workers with STEM skills, we launched the Brin Wojcicki Foundation Program in Computer Science and Engineering. The program goals are:

bullet To provide students with the opportunity to explore engineering in
  high school
bullet To prepare and inspire students to be successful in college
  engineering programs
bullet To expose students to the real work of an engineer so they can make
informed decisions about a future in engineering

The program offers Fundamentals of Engineering, which allows students to explore the different fields within engineering, and Engineering Design Lab, in which students focus on a single design project based around a theme, then design, build, and test a solution. These courses are complemented by a year-long computer science course and a new AP Computer Science course, which covers programming methodology, procedural abstraction and in-depth study of algorithms, data structures and data abstractions, as well as a detailed examination of a large case study program. We are grateful to the Brin Wojcicki Foundation for underwriting this program.
