VOLUNTEER
Tutors
Eastside's vital volunteer community is essential to our academic program. Through a network of around 60 volunteer tutors from throughout the community, students get the support they need to graduate from Eastside and enroll in college. Volunteer tutors can get involved in one of two ways:
- tutor a middle school or high school student
- participate in the Middle School Reading Program
Volunteers who commit to tutor an Eastside student come to campus at least once a week, helping their student stay on top of coursework and providing academic support.
Volunteers in the Middle School Reading Program come to campus once or twice per week, leading small groups of five or six students with their reading, discussion questions and writing projects.
Tutoring requires a current TB test and background check, per state law.
Career Pathways Program Volunteers
Our Career Pathways Program provides alumni with the professional capital to launch a successful career. Volunteers for the program can get involved by:
- participating in professional development workshops and presentations. Topics include: resume writing, networking, practice interviews, elevator pitches and LinkedIn. During the school year, presenters may also visit classes to speak with students about their industry.
- conducting informational interviews. As students explore possible career choices, they can benefit from the insights of professionals in relevant fields.
